The Summer of Mud 2025

The goal this year is to establish water systems to continue furthering the development of soil around the property. It's going to get muddy! We plan on testing and evaluating water gravity fed water distribution systems to get our lake ditch water where it needs to go.

This includes, trenches, underground piping, our chinampas experimental beds, swales & berms, and in time multiple ponds. This water will bring life to our soil and help us establish beneficial species (nitrogen fixers), displacing invasive species and improving soil health as we prepare for major planting in the years to come.

We will also be exploring clever ways, both new & old, of moving water around. We've got a good amount flowing through the property. Would love to come up with a clever way to track water moving through our property if anyone has any ideas.

Ponds

Q:: Has anyone dug, lined and properly sized ponds before?

We want to use ponds on the property that serve not only as water storage but ecosystems, and reservoirs for solar powered pump/drip systems to get water where it needs to go and reduce our dependance on city water.

Our first sanctioned pond will be in the FSF - Community Garden.
