# Ripe IdeasWhat is it?
Ripe Ideas is La Finka’s ongoing talk series and collaborative forum for long-form discussion. It emerged during The Banana Rodeo as a way for community members to share knowledge, propose ideas, and explore topics that matter to life in the high desert and to community design more broadly. Themes include sustainability, social organization, personal well-being, technology, ecology, and any subject the community decides is worth cultivating.
Ripe Ideas serves two purposes:
- A recurring in-person gathering for presentations, workshops, and group dialogue.
- A growing archive of talks, notes, references, and follow-up research maintained as part of the La Finka Digital Garden.
This page acts as the entry point for the series. It provides program details, proposals, archives, readings, and seeds for future discussions.
Purpose:
Ripe Ideas exists to provide an open forum for community learning and shared inquiry. It functions as a low-stakes space for experimentation where talks can begin as rough outlines and evolve over time with community input. The archive preserves this process, capturing both prepared presentations and the iterative discussions that follow.
Goals
- Facilitate a culture of knowledge sharing
- Explore new models of community organization and mutual support
- Build a recurring space for critical thought, creativity, and experimental learning
- Develop presentations for future events including the next Banana Rodeo
- Produce an archive of talks, notes, and linked resources that grows over time
How to Participate
Anyone can propose a session. Presentations may be complete, partial, or exploratory. Sessions can take the form of talks, roundtables, debates, demonstrations, or collaborative work sessions.

Event Structure
At each meetup we aim for one to two contributions followed by discussion. Talks may be iterative, returning in later months with expanded material. Notes from discussions and follow-ups can be added to this archive, creating a continuous record of the community’s learning.
Frequency: Monthly or biweekly (to be determined based on participation)
Location: La Finka
Time: 6/7 pm to 9 pm
ToDo:: Run a scheduling poll with the community
Presenter Invitation
This series is open to anyone willing to share an idea worth exploring in community.
