🌾 Volunteer Pathway Overview
At La Finka, everyone has a way in—and many ways to grow.
This page outlines how someone can begin contributing to La Finka and deepen their involvement over time. The pathway is non-linear, flexible, and rooted in mutual care—not hierarchy.

🌀 Pathway Flow
We often describe the volunteer journey in four concentric rings:
1. 👀 Visitor
“I’m curious.”
- Attends a Moon Boom or community gathering
- Comes to a public workday or tour
- Reads the Welcome Letter and explores the Handbook Index
Next Step: Invite to co-work day or volunteer orientation
2. ✋ Helper
“I want to pitch in.”
- Assists during an event (setup, teardown, food, etc.)
- Joins a permaculture workday or greenhouse session
- Follows along with a guild or working group
Next Step: Ask about tasks, signup sheets, or shared tools
3. 🛠 Contributor
“I’m ready to commit to something.”
- Takes on a recurring task or rotating role
- Joins a guild (e.g. compost team, Moon Boom crew, Tool Library)
- Participates in planning sessions or retrospectives
Next Step: Fill out or get assigned a Role Description
Optional: Add to Obsidian notes or Airtable tracking
4. 🌱 Steward
“This part of La Finka is mine to care for.”
- Holds a key role with ongoing responsibility
- Documents learnings and supports new contributors
- Brings vision, coordination, and accountability
Next Step: Help co-create role transitions, support onboarding, and evolve systems
Notes on Participation
- You can move in and out of rings based on capacity, interest, or season.
- Stewardship is a practice, not a title.
- Every ring is valuable and vital. Showing up once a season with joy is just as meaningful as leading a working group.
Support Structures
- Community Coordinator is available to help onboard, guide, and support volunteers.
- All roles and contributions are logged (as much as possible) in our Obsidian Vault and Airtables.
- Volunteers may earn barter credits, community perks, or other forms of appreciation based on contributions.
How to Get Started
- Attend a gathering or Volunteer Orientation
- Ask to shadow someone in a role you’re interested in
- Fill out a Volunteer Profile or talk to the Community Coordinator
- Join an upcoming Workday, Moon Boom, or seasonal build
This pathway exists to help us grow together. Everyone enters from somewhere—and we’re grateful you’re here.
