The canonical chore expectations for La Finka Agorideans. This is the "what we keep up, who does it, how often" doc. Companion system docs (pool chemistry, furnace procedures, etc.) live in Maintenance MOC.
Agorideans Chores
La Finka stays nice because we all show up for it. This doc defines the baseline expectations for every Agoridean. Rotating ownership keeps no single person carrying the house.
Common-area upkeep is a cultural agreement, not a contractual one — the lease obligates you to keep your own room clean and requires respectful use of shared spaces, but the rotations below are held by agreement. That's why we screen for people who actually want to show up. See Agoridean Intake - Overview.
The Five Areas
Upkeep at La Finka breaks into five areas. Everyone contributes across them; specific rotations follow.
- Common spaces — clean and reset to original state
- Garden and plants — indoor plants, beds, the community garden
- Pool and hot tub — chemicals, brushing, debris
- Irrigation and lawns — ditch season, mowing, lines
- Waste — trash, recycling, compost
Operating Principles
The house norms — leave it nicer than you found it, say it at a 1, kitchen and sink standards — live in House Rules & Community Living Guidelines. The one rule specific to this doc: own your rotation. Swap with another Agoridean if you can't cover your day — don't just skip.
Indoor — Daily / Weekly
Common areas: dining, living, family, hall, kitchen, entry, laundry.
| Task | Cadence | Who |

| Sweep kitchen, entry, family | 1–2 days / week | Rotating |
| Mop kitchen, family, laundry | 1 / week | Rotating — on assigned day |
| Clean out fridge | 1 / month | Rotating |
| Common bathroom clean | 1 / week | ToDo:: assign rotation |
| Run dishwasher at night | Daily as needed | Whoever sees it full |
| Water indoor plants | Weekly | ToDo:: assign |

Trash, recycling, and compost handling: see House Rules & Community Living Guidelines#Waste.
Garden & Plants
Added 260727 — the community garden is new since this doc was first written.
| Task | Cadence | Who |
|---|---|---|
| Water the community garden beds | Per season / crop needs | ToDo:: assign rotation |
| Weed beds and paths | Weekly in season | Rotating |
| Harvest what's ripe | Ongoing in season | All — don't let it rot on the vine |
| Back patio garden bed (irrigated) | As needed | Whoever's planting it |
| Indoor plants | Weekly (big ones every 3 weeks) | ToDo:: assign |
| Seasonal bed turnover — clear, amend, replant | Spring / Fall | Group activity |
- Planting plans and crop lists: Community Garden - Crop List · CommunityGarden MOC
- Q:: Which garden work is resident-held vs. Permies/volunteer-held? The community garden has a wider set of stakeholders than the house — worth drawing the line explicitly before it gets confusing.
Irrigation & Lawns
| Task | Cadence | Who |
|---|---|---|
| Ditch water management (≈May 1 – October) | Per schedule | ToDo:: assign season lead |
| Keep swales full; don't overflow the pond | During ditch season | Whoever's on ditch |
| Restrict flow at the box — trickle to neighbors | During ditch season | Whoever's on ditch |
| Mow front lawn | Every 2 weeks | Rotating |
| Mow back lawn | Every 2 weeks | Rotating |
| Clear ditch channels before water on | Before May 1 | Group — Spring Clean |
| Winterize sprinkler system | Fall | Group — Fall Clean |
See Lake Ditch for the yearly irrigation schedule.
Chickens — planned, not active
Chickens are planned but not currently on the property. These duties are parked, not deleted — reactivate when the flock returns. Compost currently goes straight to the pile in the front field rather than to the birds.
| Task | Cadence | Who |
|---|---|---|
| Check water | 1 / week | Rotating — "Chicken Mamas" |
| Check food | 1 / week | Rotating |
| Mix food | 1 / month | Rotating |
| Coop clean + hygiene | Ongoing | Rotating |

| Run sweep | As needed | As needed |
