Non Profit - Permits & Licenses
Local Permits and Licenses
- Business License: Required by most cities, including Reno, for any entity conducting business, including non-profits. This is usually obtained from the city or county government.
- Special Event Permits: If La Finka hosts public events such as concerts, festivals, or large gatherings like your annual Banana Rodeo, you may need a special event permit from the local city or county.
- Building and Zoning Permits: If you modify your facilities or use your property in a way that requires construction, you may need building permits. Additionally, ensure your activities are allowed under local zoning regulations.
- Health Department Permits: If you’re serving food at events or running a café or similar operation, you’ll likely need health permits from the local health department.
- Alcohol Permits: If alcohol is served at any events, this typically requires a permit or license from the local government and possibly state approval.
State Licenses and Permits
- State Business Registration: While you register with the Secretary of State when you incorporate, ongoing registration might be necessary, particularly if your operational scope changes.
- Professional Fundraising Registration: If La Finka engages in fundraising, Nevada may require registration as a charitable organization with the Secretary of State’s office, specifically under the jurisdiction that regulates charitable solicitations.
- Environmental Permits: Given the emphasis on sustainability and potentially engaging in activities like large-scale composting or water reclamation, you might need environmental permits from the Nevada Department of Environmental Protection.
- Nursery Permit: If engaging in any activities related to growing or selling plants, as discussed about potentially operating a nursery, you may need a nursery license from the Nevada Department of Agriculture.
Federal Licenses
-
FCC License: If you operate any equipment that emits radio frequency, such as for communication purposes during events, you might need a license from the Federal Communications Commission.
-
Music Licensing: Not a federal license, but if you host events with music, whether live or recorded, ensure you have the appropriate music licenses from ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, or similar organizations to cover copyright compliance.
General Considerations
- Insurance: While not a permit or license, having the right insurance (general liability, property, directors and officers, etc.) is crucial and sometimes required by law or local regulations.
- Accessibility Compliance: Ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) for any public spaces or events.
