La Finka serves as a vibrant community hub in Reno, NV, uniquely positioned as an exploration of both a "third place" and a "living lab" where creativity meets sustainability. As a third place, La Finka provides a welcoming environment outside of home and work where community members gather to engage, share, and learn. As a living lab, we experiment with and demonstrate sustainable practices, blending arts and technology to foster a culture of innovation and environmental stewardship.
What We Do
La Finka acts as a catalyst for community development through:

Community and Creativity: La Finka serves as a third place —outside of home and work— where people come together to engage in creative and educational activities. It provides a supportive environment for artists, entrepreneurs, and community members to explore and express their talents.

Educational Workshops and Presentations: Offering a space for community led workshops and individual presentations, helping participants to acquire new skills and expand their knowledge. We promote lifelong learning and skills development.

It integrates sustainable practices by utilizing natural resources such as geothermal energy for heating and ditch water for irrigation. The site serves as a living lab for permaculture design, demonstrating sustainable living in the high desert.

Community Garden & Permaculture: At the heart of its permaculture initiative, La Finka's community garden uses sustainable methods to cultivate food. This garden is not only a source of local produce but also space for education and community engagement where people learn about sustainable agriculture and participate in the processing of harvested goods. - Moon Boom: More than just a concert, Moon Boom is an immersive experience that creates a dynamic container for artists to explore and express their talents. Each event is carefully curated to blend live music with visual art explorations, providing a platform for artists to engage with an audience in an intimate setting. This monthly gathering is designed to unlock the creative potential of both local & traveling artists and offer them a supportive community to showcase their evolving talents.
- The Banana Rodeo: Our annual fundraising event, The Banana Rodeo, planned with playful precision by our Banana Business Bureau (BBB) epitomizes the spirit of community and creativity. This event is a celebration of our collective progress and individual projects through an engaging science fair, interactive art, and hands-on experiences. By partnering with local small businesses, we amplify community impact, support the local economy, and inspire sustainable practices. Supporting the Banana Rodeo fuels La Finka’s mission and inspires sustainable innovation and community-driven change in Reno.
