🏡 House and Community Basics
House Name
- We are La Finka. Stephanos and Niko (The brother's greek) acquired this home in 2020 and during the pandemic many friends bunkered in this nearly empty home but filled it with so much good energy as the spirit of the house was awakened into it's next life.
- During this time - La Finka got it's name from a bottle of tequila and silly chats influenced by San Diego friends making music in the basement. To make it a bit more greek - we switched the C to a K and it was here to stay.
Core Principles
ToDo:: La Finka Community Core Principles
- Doocracy - You can do anything in the best interest of the community without permission as long as it's mostly reversible.
- Open Communication: If you’re having any issues whatsoever, bring them up when they are on a 1 (on a scale of 10) of annoyance/frustration.
🥗 Food share
Q:: Do we want to set this up? Need volunteer to lead it / keep track of funds. There are great economies of scale to sharing food budget but need someone to take the reins.
- Collect funds - Group shopping
Pro Tips
- Sink Zero
- Be pro-active
- Wipe the counters
- Pay it forward as sometimes we forget things
- The toilets are known to run, please ensure the handle returns all the way up after flushing. If you notice the water running, i flip the water valve to off to avoid constantly running water.
- Use best judgement on noise levels. Conversations carry easily from basement & pool/patio.
- General quiet hours before 10am and after 10pm.
- If the house is full, try not to take calls in indoor common spaces, use your room, backyard, or the many areas available.
- We have one spot per resident parked at an angle by the basketball hoop.
- Do not block access to the field or other vehicles
- Try to have guests park on the long driveway (next to grass or junipers) or on the street
- If you see packages sitting around, please bring them in and alert whoever it is dressed to.
- If you get the mail, please filter and place in mail slots at entry for residents
- Filter junk mail and put in the bin next to fireplace to use as fire-starter
- Please be conscious of utility use, turn things off if you are not using them
- We hire professional cleaners twice a month. If you have any specific requests notify the house, or talk to Isabella directly.
- If you are doing a load of laundry, please check the dish towels, bath towels/mats also need a wash. Can also ask the group to minimize the number of loads.
- General Maintenance: Let the house know of any issues, but ideally take care of it yourself.
- Trash pickup is monday morning - Take it out sunday evening if possible
- Ideally fill up one green bin before the other, usually we put out one at a time, but if needed we pay for two.
- Recycling pickup is every other week, if you are unsure, ask or just take it out if it is full.
- Compost If the chickens will enjoy, please feed to the chickens, otherwise we fill a bin just outside the kitchen. When that is full we take it to the compost pile in the front field.

- Cook dinner/brunch
- Host an event
- BUILD THINGS
- Become a co-creator of this place! See if you can leave the house better than you found it. Closets/drawers always need to be organized, furniture can be rearranged, art projects could be done, better systems could be put in place. We’d love to hear your ideas / see them put into action.
